Never Together / 2026

Never Together
The choreographic research entitled Never Together by Matea Bilosnić was created in collaboration with Nataša Kustura, Josip Kresović, Nikolina Rafaj and Vedran Husremović during a seven-day artist residency in Savičenta, Istria.
Never Together explores the ephemeral nature of performing arts and questions the ways of recording and archiving them, while focusing on the development and monitoring of the methodology of choreographic work. Through an autoethnographic approach, the method is built from individual approaches of artists from different disciplines. The focus is on the collective creative process in the context of the artist residency.
A method that treats everything as choreography, resulting in an understanding of the research process as a durational performance.
performance for the camera
performance for the research field
performance for each other
performance for the local community
performance of the day
A key thematic preoccupation is the question of traces and remains of the research process - how can something that otherwise remains on the margins become a central creative material.
What happens when the focus is not on the final product, but on the circumstances and surrounding processes that lead to its creation?
How do we share work methodologies that differ because we come from different contexts, and how do we build a new, shared one within the process of creation?
How do we record a methodology so that it is applicable and understandable to someone who was not part of the process?
The research resulted in Performances of the Day, videos, photographs, and the publication Smjernik.
